Hi all
This post is getting long but I will say this and I speak for myself and not Venetta. To the people saying just kill the cats maybe stop and think you are killing someones pet! Most of the time... Lots are feral I know. And some are let out the do as they please. But still if you are going to trap a cat please put it down with some care. Do it quick and with as little pain as possiable.
And to Paul you big hero!! We have lost finches also to maybe mice or cats! Its apart of keeping birds sometimes! But to suggest what you did and or what some other people have suggested is just not nice! cats can be a problem and everyone hates losing finches but there are other methods to stoping cats than to killing them! I'm sure it would be a different story if I was to start shooting people dogs!
What to do about CAT'S??

I understand what you are saying but until PEOPLE restrain their cats you will not have everyone treating cats
like you would wish them too. We also get so annoyed when we look out our window and someones mangy moggy trying to sneak up
on the wild birds. They give us so much joy and the moggy's give us nothing but !!!!!!!

Lol but yeah I think we are just going to get people that hate cats and some people that like cats and BIRDS and just don't want to see them die a painfull death! It's always going to be a taking point.

Kylie, i totally agree that this post has gone on too long and needs to stop. My comment 20 posts ago was said for a reason,a few years ago,at an Avicultural Society meeting in Vic,the topic on cats was on the night and became very heated.Ten members walked out and never came back again, they threated the club to contact the RSPCA.It turned out they were breeders of cats for showing etc but also kept birds. This is why i believe this topic should stop now as it is all up in black and white and in cyber space for any one to read to show just what bird people get up to.Dont get me wrong,i hate cats too but what i do about them is my own PRIVATE business

Croc .... telling people to pull up on a conversation is a bit like taking away our freedom to an opinion ...Its a forum and if admin thinks its gone to far then they know how to shut the door ...
Im actually plesed that most people agree that a quick end is a good end to a feral cat ...yes there are people that do do the right thing and that we can vent our frustrations on the forum without being told to be quiet ...
Just saying ...

OH they do shoot dogs Venetta ...Its actually allowed if you own a property ( dont quote me ) and the dogs are causing stock losses .
And it doesnt cause as much as a stir as cats being killed as country people understand that dogs can be dangerous and will chase down stock till they die for no reason other than the chase .
Even I understand it and any one that knows me knows that I LOVE dogs ....I think too country people understand that there is no room for ferals whether it be a cat , dog or pig ..
Coming from a burb girl moved bush ...

All of this boils down to "If you have an animal, any animal, and you think something of it, keep it on your own property for its own safety."
No one is likely to harm it in its own home. Worry over. End of story!
