I've used freezer shells for many years including at times long-term storage & the seed didn't degrade noticeably. It still sprouted, didn't go mouldy, etc. I guess there is still a reasonable proportion of even a freezer full of seed still occupied by air between the grains & even when totally full doesn't remain that way for long.
