Mine's finally going somewhere. After 5 weeks in cages with lots of eggs and no one sitting I pulled 3 pairs out and put them in a flight without boxes to get some fitness in to them again. Put the nests in the flight on the weekend and lots of excitement all around, so here's hoping.

Out of 5 other pairs (2 in one flight, 3 in the other) I only have two pairs actually doing something. One pair of normals has 2 young about a week off fledging and one pair of yellow backed with 5 young hatch from 7 eggs late last week, all looking good so far. Swapped some of the other hens around on the weekend as well to try and spice things up a bit. Nest cleanup while I was at it saw over 20 eggs discarded :x .

I decided to wait this year, put boxes in at the beginning of Feb coz it looked like being a long hot summer. Next year I'm going back to late Dec / early Jan coz it seems everyone else reporting good results in Melb started earlier than me.

Thats great news FM1
BluJay

Have three yellows sitting, guess not bad for a newbie and using indoor flights, but interestingly, a normal cock has gone into moulting. Just wondering if this is normal? He was singing and breeding, now moulting!

Bluejay, 60% of my birds are moulting. I just moved them recently, so that might be the reason...
as long as they are not breeding that shouldn't be any problem
I wish i could fly

Wrong side of the world 100, ours shouldn't be moulting right now.

Well since i last posted i have 10 Blues etc on the Perch from 3 pairs, some of the pairs seem to have settled a bit now. 25 young in boxes from 5 pairs, 23 fertile eggs from 4 pairs. I lost 5 young last tuesday week ago was devistated on this as i have 3 hens i need to know if they are split WB and she was the only one that has had fertile eggs thus far. :x
Normals i have 2 BH pairs with 3 on the perch and now 11 fertile eggs. Which all the fertile eggs across the board should hatch around about now and the weekend so could be a busy one.
