I have had a very strange season, I darted with 11 pairs in 4 aviaries. My largest was my best producer last year, but has been my worst this year. Over all I have 28 young on the perch, 12 young in the nest and a few more on eggs. 1 aviary though has not been any good at all, so the numbers could have Been higher and they done there thing. I also have had one pair allow two clutches to die in the nest. Still some time, so we will see if I can get some more out

My pastel blue gouldian cock died on thusday. I was away for five days and had mum looking after the birds during the time. Aparently he was good the last Time she saw him but would sit on the ground, which obviously wasnt good IMO.
He never really got along with his split blue mate so hopefully next year I'll be able to get a split blue cock to put with the hen. I just can't risk another $300.

Noticed, today, my DF/YB/WB/RH and SF/YB/WB/RH, were flying in and out the nest lots, I did what I normally would not do, and had me a sneak peak.............three little babies with their mouths wide open. That cock sure is a bussy little feller, as he is taking care of hens in two different nests. Too bad for the other cock...........he has missed out!!!!!

HI FM101,

Sorry to hear about your loss....hopefully you find a mate for you split blue hen.

my season has had some ups and downs....I have 30 on the perch and another 16 in boxes....and another 4 pairs on eggs. But i've had a few hick-ups along the way....one avairy has had a problem with ASM...treated them 3 weeks ago and starting again today....I am a little sceptical about treating birds with newly hatched birds (under 10 days old) with Ivermectim....when I treated the flock 3 weaks ago i noticed several deaths with young that were 3-4 days old....yet no problems with any other birds...I would appreciate some thoughts on this.

However overall I'm pretty happy with the season so far....from the 13 pairs 4 are on their second round, 5 on first round and another 4 with nothing....maybe one year I will get 4-5 chicks from each round with every pair having 2 clutches....then I'll be happy

Cheers

Hi All,

sorry get my medications mixed up....my last post was about Moxidoctin (not Ivermectim)....I have had no issues with loosing young when parents have been treated with Ivermectim....but feel the Moxidoctin may have caused some problems with birds that had 3-4 day old chicks in the nest....any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Paul
