I think it may be a little too advanced and probably expensive for honours, so may be hard to get backing/funding. But no harm in asking really is there?

After reading your other posts I thought how I've made a jackass out of myself even just by inquiring, since I don't even know the new curator that well. Something like that even if sponsored by the Australian Museum chances of anyone "wanting to help" are absolute zero! :)
I was hoping someone like MDS Australia would have been able to help for a reasonable fee, but nothing yet like that is available in NSW, maybe in a few years time! :)

I don't think you've done that at all mate! The only way bird keepers, scientists and people as individuals can move forward in their knowledge is by questioning everything and exploring possibilities. The old saying "the only stupid questions is the one not asked" is appropriate here.
DNA sequencing is still a relatively new technology, though as with many things, it is advancing in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, reductions in cost for these kind of things seem to be a couple of years behind the technology itself...
I'll send an email off to one of my contacts at Uni and ask for an opinion from him. He uses DNA sequencing to determine interrelatedness and therefore population viability in endangered species, so may have some idea on an approximate cost or likelihood of an honours project.

Did you know MDS send all material to be tested back to their Labs in Sth Africa
I think Curtin Uni WA and DNA Solutions Vic are the only Aust. Labs

But can you compare the price. To get 10 birds DNA'd with MDS will cost approximately $160, I can't recall what the others charge but I think some charge like a wounded bull! Luckily, DNA sexing is no longer needed for any of species I breed!

Hi Spana,
if the process is that long and difficult, even if a person doing it is honestly willing to help, who ever is sponsoring it if they find out, they probably wouldn't like it. It's like, if someone asks you "can I borrow your Ferrari" then he lands it to someone else

 I'll be asking purely theoretically at this stage, to "satisfy my academic mind" (curiosity killed the cat really). But I'll let you know of any useful info.

Opss, I wasn't referring to your inquiring. You probably know the person well.
That was about me, I had no idea it was a difficult process! :)
