I wouldn't use any medication on birds so young. Accurate dosage would be a measure of micrograms, and even then may have negative effects.WOULD probably have negative effects, quite possibly death, but one of our vets may be able to comment with a more knowledgeable answer.
Unfortunately at such a young age, finches being hand reared can die for many reasons. It may have aspirated some food (sucked it into it's lungs), it may have been weak (even though it was largest), it may have gotten an infection... Too many possibles I would say.
At 3 days old I would be feeding about 0.3mL or maybe a little less. Better to feed less and more often than too much. I plan on getting some fine scales so I can one day give a more accurate feed indicator, as each feed should be around 10% of the birds bodyweight from memory.
I had a quick read through the guide you mentioned earlier, and all seems proper there, even though it is slightly different to my past experiences. Funnily enough, the author shares my last name... I also have a half finished guide to hand rearing of my own, thought that a bit of strange coincidence!!

which I will try to avoid in the future if I can help it
On day 5 I knew that something was wrong, his crop was slowing down and not emptying, I read from two online
tutorials to use infinite applesauce to lower the pH of the crop which aims to kill the infection. but It was to late he
sadly he past away this morning before I had a chance to feed him.
Just want to thank everyone who helped with advice especially spanna, thank you
Cheers

Sorry to hear it mate. As you say, you did your very best and gave them every chance. Unfortunately it's a very difficult thing to do, and since they are so tiny and vulnerable, mortality is often high. Of the 7 young I've tried to hand rear recently, only 5 have survived to maturity, and when I was younger I failed a number of times in rearing abandoned birds. It's a tough gig.

Shame about the young one, you did really well to keep him going for that long, especially from an egg! Ive only just managed to hand raise 3 gouldians and they were 5 or 6 days old before I had to take over.
