Looking into some form of substrate in my bird cages apart from newspapers.
I am thinking of using chick crumbs in my cats litter trays, dust free, and it clumbs. I was wondering if i could use chick crumbs in my birds cages aswell? Or are they likely to eat it and fall ill or get fat?
Cage substrates?

Howldaloom, is that the same as, chicken feed? If so, it might be a little messy. I personally have had good sucess with ground corn cobs, back home, http://www.bestcob.com/retail-products/ ... al-bedding" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.equilitter.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, rabbit feed works well. But still use newspaper under all of it. Except walk- in aviaries. Large flights, just newspaper under the grills.

I'm using straw and it's working well.
Faeces dry and drop straight through as well as
The seed, I'm quite happy with how it works.

In my opinion if your finches have seed to eat, then they are very unlikely to eat awful chicken crumbles....i have tried to get mine to eat those vetafarm and roudybush crumbles and nibbles and they wont touch it and its made specifically for finches! so i would imagine chicken feed is similar-something they wont recognise as food and leave it alone...
