My Zebs a pair boy & girl seem to be putting allot of attention to each other. Attending to each other feathers, taking a swing on the swing together. And now they are making this soft song up close to each other. I am just wondering if they are about to mate ? There is no nest & being new to Zeb's. I wasn't planning on them to mate so soon. They are always so playful & the male is a real little singer.

it sounds like part of their mating ritual. the little beggers will breed anytime of the year and as young as nine weeks old, mice with wings....pete

Surely they would think about having a good nest first ? BTW do the female Zeb's have a song or is just a beep ? My male Zeb has one song that sounds like a squeak toy & this other song like a toy ray gun & your standard beep.

Not zebs. They will lay in the seed cup, on the floor in other nests, any were.
Mating song is the toy ray gun.

Well no sign of a egg's yet. But tonight as I always do around my Zeb's is whistle to them. The male has always been keen to listen to my whistle. The female usually gets excited running about the cage from perch to perch. Well tonight the female gave me quiet a nice sweet song back in several renditions. Then the male sparked off his toy ray gun sound. Just wondering seeing they see me as the seed man & my whistling has sparked them off ?

Well this morning while whistling to my Zeb's they mated before my eyes. Obviously this pair is not shy or afraid of me watching them. They both made this same soft almost pidgin like warble sound. The males tail feathers were spread wide for quiet some time & they were in a flurry of excitement. Then they both danced around the cage.

So how long before I see eggs ?
