Hi. As things are my birds have no full spectrum lighting at all!
Today i came accross this http://www.northernparrots.com/avian-su ... rod828010/
The lamp looks like a fab idea! I could move it around the birdroom throughout the day so each bird gets some. My only worry is the vision part of it. If the lamp is located in one part of the room, surely the birds on the other side wont be getting enough light? Or is the bulb that bright?
If the light is outside their cages wouldnt the birds look at the bulb and hurt their eyes? Should the lamp head be pointing towards the ground to prevent this or will it still happen?
What do you think? Really need help with this?
Avian bird lamp! advice!

I forgot to mention i have wooden breeding cages so the light wouldnt be able to go above the cages but at the side of them.
Just make sure the light is pointing down? would it have the same affect?

You may not get too many responses to this question, as we generally don't have any experience with artificial light sources. There is sufficient sunshine here in Australia, even in the middle of our so called winter to be able to allow the birds to function normally..

I see. Lol *BANGS HEAD AGAINST WALL* rofl.
Um my main question is positioning of the lamp. Being as i have wooden breeding cages i cannot put the lamp above the cage, but will have to put them to the side of the cage. If i was to point the light downwards would it blind them? Or not have any affect?
This is all so confusing???

Judging by the picture with the lamp above the parrot cage, I would suspect that the above position would be better as that would be the natural position of the sun and the birds head and eyes would be geared to that. Let's see if anyone else has some ideas on this. I think that I would be contacting the manufacturer to get more info on this.

I haven't had much to do with full spectrum lights but if its so the birds can get vitD etc, they would only need an hour of it.Most of the time here the sun is out so our birds are looking at it all the time and when it's to bright they go to a shady area. Confuses say just do it. Craig
Howldaloom, I can only share with you what I did with full spectrum lighting. At one time I did have the wooden type breeding cages and flights. What I did, was to remove the end board and replace with wire material. I then mounted the light fixtures, vertically on a track, so when a bulb needed replaced, I could just slide the fixture out and change the bulb and slide back into place. The fixture, also had protective lens. I had the lighting on timers.
If my birds seemed chilled, I would use a clip on lamp fixture, with a heat lamp, pointed towards the cage floor.
