Those bloody grass seeds  I had to pull hundreds out of an old poodle we had , took so long they started to bury into his skin .

Glad little miss and trouble trousers are OK , by the looks of it he might be milking things just to stay on that lounge lol .

Blujay ...my biggest fear is the silliness will spread to here .

They cant group all Amstaffs the same, some are well adjusted, happy, loving family dogs and their owners want nothing more than that. Its always the same the animals get the blame for the way the owner has brought them up.
Cooper has been trained the same way Ive trained all my dogs, with common sense, commitment and consistency. Im not saying hes dosnt have a stubborn streak sometimes but that is where the consistency comes in, I will not let him get away with anything I dont want him doing. Im still working with him when we get visitors, all he wants is to smother them with licks, but being a big dog he can be overpowering.
He goes on the walking machine for 10 mins every morning before his morning walk and he gets walked every day.

This is him wanting to play

When it gets cold he shares his bed with Molly a Papillon, she keeps him well in line!

All excited on Christmas Day while we were opening presents, he just had to be involved so he started picking up wrapping paper.

What a gorgeous wee man!
These are my vicious brutes, Bear (the Shepherd durrently devouring her prey), and Snoop (the somewhat demented Cocker)

Isnt he growing up to be a gawjus boy BB ...

My point too , dont blame the dog , blame the idiot owner that doesnt commit to bringing up a well adjusted dog .

Weve just been for a bush walk and Im so proud of the way my 2 just keep up with us , no running off or being silly , makes life easier when they are somewhat obedient .

Jusdeb, I have always stated, it is not always the dog, even a trained one has issues, when it is owned by an idiot that has not been trained to control the dog. When I was into training dogs for CD/CDX, my favorite trainer to follow was Carol Lea Benjamin, author, of Mother Knows Best, The Natural Way to Train Your Dog. I believe she has a website available. I find it astonishing how issues in the states find their way to other countries. How it is there is not how it is everywhere. Nonetheless, in the states, or it least the state I am from, they have lots of broad sweeping concepts. Luckily, I come from a family of lawyers, beginning with my grandmother, whom combat this ideology!

It is now my understanding, they have to remove breed specifics from the wording in the law, and are going to base it on the disposition of the dog. One can only hope. Certain dogs, when picked up by animal control, could only be claimed by their owner, which many would not, because they did not meet the legal requirements to have such a dog in their control, ultimately, the dog would have to be destroyed.

What one country does and does not do regarding animals, should be those countries business and that is where it should stay!

BB, nice looking dogs. Like those little Papillon, and their satellite dish faces.

Niki K, cute dogs. Like shepherds also, cockers were a nightmare at one time, their temperament was aggressive. This was largely, due to the gain of popularity after world war II, and people breed for qaunitity, instead of qaulity, but their dispositions have improved over the years. They also were fun to groom.

Lots of guidelines are precipitated by health departments and the CDC, as dogs bites and/or attacks have to be reported. Then you have the ambulance chaser, attorneys, looking to represent persons with injuries, some specializing in dog bites!

Shame you're not here to groom him!! I just adopted him about 2 months ago, and I'm trying to find a good groomer that isn't hideously expensive! Yeah, even my vet commented on what a nice dog Snoop is, as often poorly-bred Cockers can be aggressive, or snap when frightened. Snoop's a big sook, and quite happily goes to the vet (I think it's because he gets treats and cuddles), even after they cut his knackers off!!

I definitely agree that everything comes down to the owner, and whether they're willing to look after and properly train their dog. I once had a little Jack Russell run over when I was walking Bear and when Bear put her head down to sniff him/her, the bloody thing snapped at Bear's face and drew blood! The owner was standing right there- no word of apology, nothing. Luckily, Bear was too surprised to do anything and just looked up at me- I guarantee that if she had snapped back, the Jack Russell's owner would have had something to say about it! A lot of people with little dogs don't seem to see training as important as it is for large dogs.
At the same park, a Border Collie was killed by 3 pit bulls who broke down their home fence (bordering the park) and attacked the collie's owner. Collie went to defend his owner, and died for it. Bloody travesty, that.

Niki where in melbourne are you as I'll happily come and groom your dog, I ran my own grooming business until the second child and it's always worth keeping your hand in but I only do a few friends dogs now. Can only offer a clip though kept my clippers but got rid of all the other equipment (no point keeping it all when it's just as easy to go use the local coin operated dog wash for the kelpies)

Hi Maz,
I'm in Preston. Whereabouts are you? It would be amazing if you could clip him! He's a dream to wash (I just plonk him in a quarter full bathtub and he sits there and lets me wash him) so I don't need any help with that, just with clipping. Cheers!
