With the help from you guys, i have finally got a clutch of eggs.
Im not sure if they are fertile because i cant get my fingers to get in the nest but i am still happy as she didnt die when she layed the eggs.
unlike these guys, my gouldian finch females tryed to lay some eggs and they unfortunately died.

Are you giving your birds any or enough Calcium,grit or charcoal could cause your hens to get eggbound

Try to keep fingers out of nests...otherwise they may desert.. you will have to increase green and sprouting seeds when young hatch as well as livefood for them...if you dont hear young being fed after bout 14 to 18days of sitting eggs probably infertile..

Definately not a finch I would be putting my fingers in the nest of. Greens roots and all, so they can pick the tiny insects as well as the green seeds. And increase the cuttlefish to those Gouldians. Try egg and biscuit mix for both as well, some take it and those that do do well on it.

After the female gouldians died, i got some egg and biscuit mix and the orange breasts
love it and i wont need to check the nest when ever i walk near the nest they fly out.

Just be careful you don't spook them too often then...they don't like it and look at you as a predator and still could desert... Best to give them plenty of shrubbery in that area next time before they lay so as they can't see you or you them...Good Luck

I've had about 25 this breeding season so far-all pairs used cane baskets/hollowed out cocoa nuts/built their own and did not worry where they were placed higher or lower. They dont like me anywhere neartheir nest and will definitley abandon if you walk past the nest too often, which I found out due to my ignorance. I would not even try a nest inspection.

i topped up the food so i wont need to go in there for couple of days.
by then the eggs should hatch and i will here chirping from the little guys.

mine also eat lots of lebanese cucumber and mealworms

Where i am , it is hard to get mini mealworms since it isnt breeding season for a lot of the birds.
it sucks a lot.
