Hi all,
Yes i have a problem, i have one pair of normal gouldians, two lots of eggs and two lots of dead babies, first time they hatched two chicks and then left them after two days, second lot they hatched 4 chicks and again left them after 2 days.
There has been no frieghts of any sort but still this happens, the only thing i can think of is they are two young to breed properly yet, i do not know how old they are.
Any advice would be helpfull thankyou.

What are the birds being fed? Sometimes birds will abandon if they feel there are insufficient nutrients available for the chicks. Then again, sometimes the birds can simply be young and inexperienced. I had a pair of birds (diamond firetails) that took EIGHT nests to finally fledge some young. Some extra info may help, but it may just be a case of giving them time to learn the ropes. Hard to sit by and watch though.

Hi Spanna.
Thanks for the reply. i feed them millet sprays, siberian millet, canary seed, panorama seed, red panicum, white millet, cuttle bone, egg shell (microwaved), shell grit. As you said they may take a while to settle down, but it is frustrating to see the dead babies.Thankyou for your help.

Diet sounds good, but I would add some green seed if at all possible, if not soaked seed. They tuck into my soaked seed every morning, and (when I have it available, have run out now!) they MAUL any green seed still on the stem. It is tough, but they should get the hang of it soon hopefully.

I would agree with Spanna as well as keeping fingers out of nests or refrain from looking till they get used to you....as most Gouldians don't mind but some do....or do you have any other birds in there that may be disturbing them....Without knowing all the the things going on it is hard to put finger on the problem..Dave
