Hi Frankie,
all gouldians up this way seem to want to breed in autumn and winter. It's the time they breed in the wild, but of course it's a lot warmer where they come from!!
It can be successful if you have a protected set up. I have three out at the moment, fledged two weeks ago or so.

You need to be in a warm climate. Or have well protected avairys. Or both. To make things easier on the birds. To make it easier for people to answer relavent to your situation, it is best if you put your city/town or state as your location.

I have had gouldians breed through winter and my brother has also. Being in Melbourne and having cold days that last a while it can be successful but there are times that makes me wonder why I let them keep going as I have found chicks that died but were usually single chicks that fledged.

Mine still want to breed and are on eggs now but most things I have read say to stop breeding around now so they can start to moult ??? so confused . some of the things I have read say that if allowed to keep breeding it will suppress or stop there moult which will lead to a poor breeding season next year.

Any opinions as it is doing my head in.
Gunna post this a new topic as well

Thanks for everyone that gave advice on breeding gouldians in winter. I live in Geelong for the person who asked. I have taken out nesting boxes and hope that they will start to molt earlier. :ugeek:
