Hi, My male Zebra finch is pulling out the nesting material. He takes it out and shakes the material then drops it on the floor. He shakes the nest hard when he pulls out the material and I worried he'll shake the egg up. What would be causing him to do this?

Also I expected another egg this morning but there is still only one egg. I read on one site zebra finches lay one egg each day and on another site it said every other day. She's acting fine flying around and eating. I expected another egg this morning but there is still only one egg. Earlier they were only going in the nest for a few minutes but as the day went on they started going in the nest more often and sitting on the egg for hours but then flew off and they are still off the nest and its been about an hour. The male only goes in the nest for a few minutes. I'm starting to feel confused have they started incubating?

Thank you.

Incubating seldom starts until they have at least 2 eggs and sometimes not until the 4th. Don;t worry about them not sitting yet. Do they have a second nest site available? He sounds unhappy with the nest for some reason.
