Hi there, I'm a new member of the community. I'm a 16 year old girl, from North Queensland. I currently have 2 Budgerigars however, I'm looking into getting some Finches and decided to join this forum as I have some questions to ask.

I'm only going to ask a few as my other questions would fit under the aviary section.
  • I'd love to breed Finches, if my cage/aviary was large enough, would colony breeding be ideal?
  • Lady Gouldian finches are gorgeous, however are these ideal to begin breeding? Would it be best to start off with other Finches such as Zebra Finches? (I have absolutely no previous experience with breeding birds, however I have studied them a bit.
  • How much would a pair of Lady Gouldian Finches cost? Although I adore some colourations, I am not after any specfic colouration.
  • If I were to breed Finches, is there any other supplements I should be giving my birds before I add any form of nest? Other than minerals from a mineral block and cuttlefish bone, millet spray, and their usual finch seed.
That's all the questions I have so far regarding Finches!

Gouldians are not that hard to breed. All i give them is cuttlebone, crushed eggshell, a good seed mix with egg food and sprouthed seed once a week and i have had good results with that.
A breeding pair of normal gouldians will cost u between $50 and $90 depending on where u get them from.

Thanks for the information! Although the initial cost of the birds shouldn't really matter, I wanted to know an average so I can get a good deal. Gouldian's being available in some striking colours I didn't want to be ripped off. ;)

Thanks again for the Welcomes! :D

Hi and welcome to the forum Nemo.

Gouldians are my favorite too. I bought 3 pairs October last year and they have bred successfully despite having to live with my inexperience. I now have 29 babies colouring up and my last 5 babies just born in last couple of days!
Good luck with finding your gouldians, let us know what birds you get. We love pics!
