I no nothing of your club's troubles, but in all clubs it's the members who vote in the committee. I'm yet to attend a club AGM where there's any significant competition for committee jobs so change is just an AGM away.
Or go down a different route altogether. When I was at the NFSA Healesville conference I was surprised to find there is no dedicated finch club in Victoria. Maybe start one up - you've certainly got a heap of super capable finchos in your area.

Ok it appears that you guys have made attempts to do something . You can’t help some one or thing that doesn't want help .I commend you guys for trying ,Looks like the old boys club may just die out. It doesn't hurt to get the full story out and debate the problems .

HI All
Thanks to the investigative work of Mr Tino we have discovered that The Royal Agriculture Society of Vic Inc. could potentiall allow the Avicultural Society of Australia hold it's bird sale at the Melbourne Show Grounds for free.....yes for free.
All that is needed is for the Aviculture Committee to correspond with the Agriculture Society seeking to have our event classified as a reserved event. The normal fee of $2/sqm will be waived if this status is granted. The Agriculture Society has already given such status to dog and horse groups....so our Committee should be able to achieve this goal.
Tino and myself have written a letter to the Aviculture Society requesting that they liase with the Agriculture Society to achieve the outcome that will see the Melbourne Sale return to the Show Grounds at zero costs....now everyone should be happy with that!!!!!!!
Tino or myself will post a message once we know what action has (has not) been taken.
Cheers
Paul

Would it be a reasonable idea that you two approach the Avi Soc. Committee to see if they have a sub committee organising the sale
If this is so it may be prudent for you to be involved in organising the event.I would be surprised if the committee didn't want your help as
it takes some of the work load off the existing committee people.
Once it is decided you must promote ,and promote heavily not just within the club but other areas. Approach the bigger breeders and try and
get commitments out of them to attend. These days we would only think of attending those sales that are seller friendly.
Some groups holding sales have a definite line of thought that they are doing sellers a favour by running a sale.
Sellers are just as important as buyers.Melbourne Sale is a prime example.

Hi E Orix,
Totally agree with everything you have said....we would be happy to assist in any way that ensured we got the show grounds (for free).
I agree that any changes would need to be heavily promoted....your point about sellers being important is highlighted by the recent melbourne sale....poor numbers of sellers this year will result in declining number of buyers in future years unless action is taken.
Hopefully Tino and I have started the process that will result in many people talking about the Melbourne Sale and supporting this event so that it can achieve numbers of 2,000+...out of interest do you know how many people once attended the Melbourne Show during the 80's and 90's.
Cheers

I don't know what numbers attended years ago all I know is that you couldn't move in most of the venues.
Lets hope someone from their committee reads the posts and decides to talk with the people wanting to assist.
