I have a male king quail who is trying to do it all himself. He managed to solely incubate 10 eggs and hatch 7. Unfortunately he has managed to loose 5 in the past 4 days. The dead beat mother hasn't let any of the little ones brood under her. It is interesting how behaviours change between individuals and even between clutches. First time around she was very attentive.

I had a cock (now finchbreeder has him) that was the best father I'd ever had. If I went near the young, he would actually fly at my face
He would also sit on the nest with the hen, though only occasionally, as she didn't like him being there too much!

We got a pair from mackstaa and the male does really well. I think mum generally sits on the nest until they hatch, but after hatching you will generally find some babies under dad, and they're usually right next to each other. It's very cute

Spanna, the hen and her new mate (first time dad) hatched 5 and 4 are now half grown. She really is very red cinnamon. So waiting to see what the babys colour up like. New mate is cinnamon, and she is teaching him the ropes.
