My daughter in law has a Giant cave gecko. I asked her about it and she has sent an email with some information, I have forwarded it to you Deb.
The Giant part of the name is a bit of a misnomer as Sammi the Giant Cave Gecko  is only tiny and feels like cool velvet. I was holding her the other day although holding is a relative term too as more time was spent trying to stop her leaping away.

At risk of bringing this thread back to birds, the King Parrot's scientific name (Alisterus scapularis) refers to the son of the man who named it, and is only one of several scientific names with 'Alister' buried in it, the indulgence of a proud father.
