Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I've just added my first gouldian to the ranks. I have NO idea what colour he is classed as, his head colour hasn't come through yet but looks to be a yellow head from what little colour is there, and he has a yellow body. I'll try the whole photo thing at some stage, to get some opinions possibly, and maybe some photos of my Java's.

Hi Bear do you have your Goulds in cabinets or an aviary? I love the colours in Gouldians, I would love to get some but as I have not had finches before I'm a bit scared of the cost and that I might stuff them up!

Hi Justbrowsing, I have my finches inside in a breeder cage set up at the moment (it's a Bono Fido brand one, if you google bono fido breeder cage it should come up, 3rd link down). I only plan on adding one more gouldian for now, so that I can utilise the cage as 2 flight cages rather than 4 smaller sections.

From personal experience, I have found gouldians to be not exceptionally hard to manage. I colony-bred several as a teen, in an outside aviary, I just made sure that their diet was good, and they performed! (their diet consisted of seed, egg and biscuit, egg shell, and lots of veggies given daily).
Now, I'll be more focused on pairing up certain colours, rather than just waiting and seeing what I'll get.

Thanks for your reply, I'm still researching and deciding what to do! Love the gouldians. Will have to see what aviary positions I can come up with that might be Gouldian friendly....

Welcome to the forum. Javas and Gouldians are both good finches for those of us into genetics. And Weerios/Quarions for the genetics minded parrot lovers.

Im glad to hear that I made a good decision species-wise! I also have 9 quarions (I tend to call them cockatiels though...I have 9, and only 2 are the same mutation, not by choice - 2 were "donated" to my collection last week)
