Have heard its happening in Qld ..Councils are getting very hard on bird owners .....
So what kind of birds were they ? if they were big noisy birds then yeah I can understand but if they were quiet then very harsh indeed .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Bird Owners need to come together and put the councils back where they belong...I'm sorry but this has been spoken about before, they can't make laws...they are not recognised by the commonwealth government to start with..

It is getting or at the point that a neighbor can complain about noise pollution and succeed in any state. It is not an idle threat but fact.
Finch keepers are fortunate as the noise level is not so high but some parrot species are as bad as a constant yapping dog.
If some give and take is accepted then all is not lost but sadly some people who complain can be dogmatic and unbending
Sadly these days many council workers and management have forgotten that they are classed as public servants and not a second tier police
force. At the moment none are on my Xmas card list.

I know of someone whose neighbour has an aviary of about 80 African Lovebirds right beside this couple’s lounge room/outside deck. They haven’t complained. But, in summer it is impossible to leave the window open or to sit outside and have a normal conversation. Even as a bird lover that would drive me totally nuts
.
On the other hand, I’m helping a friend prepare a case for the local council as a recently moved in neighbour is complaining about his one rooster. This guy has gone way above the requirements to try to keep the noisy neighbour happy, but no luck so far.
My point is there are ratbags on both sides, who stuff it up for the rest of us.
They keep pushing and pushing the limits until someone has to become heavy handed just to shut them up. We all know someone like that in life.
Unfortunately basic respect for others has to be forced onto them to do the right thing.

Logan Council had an attempt to bring in regulations to control bird keeping and published a draft document. Fortunately many bird enthusiats and clubs including ours on the GC made submissions and it has gone nowhere so far. Some of the stupidity was to limit 'cacophanous' birds but without determining what or how many would be acceptable. i.e. 20 Cockatoos the same as 20 zebra finches? they also proposed that aviaries should be 30 meters from the boundary which would mean that you could not have any in a suburban area. I think when it was pointed out the complexity of when is a cage an aviary and all the other issues it fortunately got too hard for now. Here on the GC Aviaries have to be 1 metre from the boundary and there is a limit of 20 birds if the lot is less than 600 sq mtrs. I think most are ignoring those because again what happens when birds breed etc so is another stupid not thought out regulation....but that is typical of the type of councils we get. In the paper today one business is being charged $65,000 to install two more sinks....go figure

There was a case over here a while back about budgies , the guy had something like 150 = of them and had to sell nearly all , sun conures are noise buggers no wonder they have complained, but also depends on how many they have . One sunnie can create enough noise in my book to warrent a noise complant especially if its a pet thats left alone alday, its like having a puppy and not giving it the attention it needs.
But slightly of topic, but still bird related , most councils over here wont let you have a chook pen within 30ft of an opening window, some people would be lucky to have that much room in a back yard these days. So noise issues will be more common as the years pass...pete

Sure there is problems with noise in some instances...trouble is these people who run Councils have forgotten they are no longer Counciils but businesses...unable to make or enforce laws...or impose any type of fine...also if you have a front gate and they open your screen door they are subject to trespass....(I don't even pay parking fines legally) We all need to know our rights and inform them of such....so unless it is Commonwealth Law (as Commonwealth Law overrules State Law) we should all make a stand.....trouble is we are so far out of touch with law that even a single Magistrate is illegal in any Court (Star Chamber) yet we continue to allow this??? they go on about this act of law and that act of law but unless its been inacted and signed off by Her majestry it is NOT Law...enough of my rant I will get of the soapbox and hope that those of you able to impress upon your Councilors that they work for you not the government....oh and for those that don't believe me I have a letter from the former Governor General stating that Councils are not recognised by any Government Department...happy to send by email if you wish....

Having just received rates notices 10% increase by council to add to the 10% they got through 4 yearly state revaluation they are definately not my favourite people at the moment. Wonder if the problem I have with storm water will get fixed before it's 3rd aniversary of complaint? If the Budgie guy you mentioned Pete is the one I think, he had also been living at the address for some time before the neighbour from hell even moved in. There should be considerable notice taken of who was there first. Meanwhile the council that employs my son can go right on doing so.
