Can anone help me with where to buy Poa species grasses?
They're great little things, the cheapest I can find is $65 for 36 really tiny plants.thats the only one I've found. So does anyone grow these grasses (Poa Lab. In particular), and could they enlighten me on where they found them?
Thanks!

I have about 20 odd plants growing. If you planted 36 probley 30 would live. They need to be planted atleast 1 metre apart if you want to get around them.I would think about two or so adult plants would be enough for a aviary about 2.5 x 5 m they would take up about 3/4 of a m fully grown.I have had the same plants for maybe 15 years and move them when I move. They can also be split into two or more plants when grown. Some of my birds nest in them some strip them for nesting material and some eat the seed heads, possibly some dont do anything with them.I would highly rate them as a nesting site for those who use them the other uses there are better plants. The tiny ones would be very large within one to two years in the right conditions.I had a area in my yard with 100 or more in it and had to get a bobcat to remove them as my tractor would struggle on the big ones.

Thanks Di,
Gomer - Id be planting them along the open side of the aviary, about half a foot from the wire - perhaps more room is necessary? I don't really need to get around them there. As long as it doesn't push out the wire, I have predator protection on that side.
Is it worth getting 36 if I only need two to fill the space? Perhaps I could pot a couple as rotating plants and for nesting material as well....
You can see what I keep in my signature, and with those in mind would they try and strip them? I'd prefer not to have to cover them with wire if possible. I have to clean those things at work and they get very dirty and poopy.
Do they flop over much? Im looking for a mix between somewhere private for the quail to nest and tall so the finches can use it well.
Lastly, what sort of conditions are best for them? My aviary floor is entirely sand about a foot deep, but I was going to replace a large rectangular section of that with dirt so I can grow plants properly. It's very well drained though. Does that sound suitable?
Thanks!

Crocnshas, yep sounds about right. Not to worry though, mine will be very well searched with eye, hand and water before they get near the aviary
