Most mornings I sit outside and have my morning coffee, the other morning I heard a bird call that I havent heard for a long time, I was sure it was a pardalote.
I looked everywhere but could not find the culprit even though I could still hear it. The next morning was the same story I could hear a pardalote but could not see it, then I heard a tapping noise from one of my pot plants and out flew a striated pardalote, the little buggars had nested in the waterwell of one of my self watering pot plants.
This morning I stayed inside to drink my coffee armed with my trusty 50m to 500m lens aimed outside the door to the pot where the birds were nesting, it wasn't long and out one popped and I was able to snap a few photos of it. I am really pleased how this picture turned out as I was about 20 yards away and shooting from inside my house.

And this is where they are nesting, its a good thing I have been lazy and havent watered the plant in a long time.

I couldn't find any information on the striated pardaduck, so I think I do have it right.
I used to have a pair of spotted pardalotes nest in my yard when I was much younger, I seem to recall my father calling them banky diamonds but I havent heard that term used since.

Hi Framed...I was just being silly......it is a striated ......I dont think they come near here...but the spotteds do.....i had a pair nest in a garden bed before the local cat scared them
I havnt heard of the spotteds call that either..but it seems a very apt description...
I hope yours see their nest right through..it would be an amazing buzz if they raised some chicks........maybe you could get some more pics

Great photo framed.
How come the moving bird is infocus and the stationary pot plant is blurry.
I have the yellow-rumped pardalote around my house. Lovely bird. They usually nest in burrows on sloping banks so i can see why they picked that "burrow" in your pot plant.
I think its a striated pardalote.

Great shot framed. We have the spotted pardalote here, they nest in burrows, that they dig in hills or mounds around here like a rabbit.A interesting bird indeed.
