Imagine the outrage if you wanted to take these same animals and place them in captivity, either in zoos or privately!

If they like killing sprees come up and shoot some cats -PLEASE .Just wondering what some of that wildlife would be worth in other countries ? Fiar enough to keep areas around airports safe but the rest seems like a ludicrous waste.

In June, Mr Barber attempted to have all permits to cull wildlife tabled in State Parliament, a move that was frustrated after Environment Minister Ryan Smith said it would involve an unreasonable diversion of his department's resources.
If it was an "unreasonable diversion of a department's resources" to have the permits tabled it makes me wonder if they asked any questions of those who applied for the said permits.

How do they know the hunters can tell one parrot from another?

Surely in a lot of these cases the birds/animals could be trapped and relocated? Relocating to parks and reserves can not be too hard? Obviously not the aggressive ones. And issueing a trapping licence instead of a killing one would make no difference to the amount of paperwork/time required.

If you want wildlife to be protected, then you have to have a permit system to account for the instances where you want to remove them or their habitat......eg, when you want land to live on, a new road to drive on, or a new place to go the shops.........or catch a plane without sucking up a seagull and crashing to the ground. Thats pretty much all of us here :lolno:

Scientists have reason to apply for these licences also.....so they can play with them and learn how they tick :shifty: .....In fact our Native bird keepers licence allows us to kill native wildlife.....we just record our deaths in our log  .....same thing in law :geek: .......obviously golf is held in high regard by some in our society :wtf: ........let the wombats, cockies and galahs dig up the greens, I say :P ..........

Anyway, just another shock story generated by groups aspiring to political greatness.....whilst the story does provide some balance, the message in every reader's head is that all our native wildlife are doomed because anyone can get a permit to kill something.......................Its not as easy as that........I wish it werent the case FB, but in my experiences relocation is even harder to get permission for.

With the supposed decline in journalistic ethics I wonder whether we should soon amend the old saying, "believe none of what you hear and only half of what you read"...........maybe something that better reflects contemporary life in a multi-media world....Hear - 0, Read - 0, look up on the net - 0 :eh:

It happens in every state every year, with all species, just that no body realised it.

I only knew of Kangaroo culls , here they give out tags and you kill according to how many tags you get ... Oblivious to the rest .

why would they "need" to kill kookaburras & swans?
they wouldn't they just ping off naturally once a place became too crowded ?
weird

Always had a problem with that shoot, tag and leave systems for roos. If you are going to do it is is a damn waste.
