I have lost 2 hens so far this winter (torquay, Vic), out of approx 30 birds. Not happy at all with this - but is this to be expected through a cold wet Victorian old fashioned winter.
Fingers crossed no more losses.

No young lost from last year of birds that i kept and most were Blue Hens as well. The hen i lost was a YB/Blue. And still havnt lost any young off the perch from this season.
Health wise did they seem alright etc?

Sad day here too. Lost our baby gouldian last night.
It was just beginning to get it's purple, the gorgeous green and the yellow belly. Would have been full colour by the end of the year.
I don't understand why though. It was so happy and healthy, but I did notice yesterday afternoon it seemed to be 'shivering' more than usual and it looked cold.
But the weird thing is I found him dead in the middle of the aviary. Still scratching my head.

How much shelter you got in your aviaries like brush for them to hide in away from cold.

Lost a couple of birds (adults) through the season which can be expected. These birds just got weak, for what reason I don't know. They live in a real good, warm aviary, not wet, plenty of nesting places, soaked/sprouted seed, greens and grains, seeding grasses and greens every day. I did lose a few birds through the storms we had here in Sydney in April but that was out of my hands. In saying that I have lost 3 chicks that are just coming into moult in the last two weeks, dirty bum is all I can see. Will give the moxy/baycox medication in the next couple of days. Funny though, it is only the goulds and not the stars or painteds that turn their toes up.
