No,thats not coastal tea tree but is definately one of the prickely melalueka's,coastal tea tree has a leaf of around 10mm x 16mm staggered evenly on the stem and isn't prickely and the leaves hang on for years even though they turn brown.
The birds find the leaves very difficult to snip off,not like some of the melalueka's were they can end up as sticks in a few months. Craig

Yes that coastal tea tree is a menace down here they rip it out as it takes over everything.I have never tried it I would imagine it would be to course.We bulldozed heaps of it at my old work place.When I go out to seawinds (they are also growers of native plants for Alcoa) and ask for native plants they call native like a 20 km radius of the area.Anything out of that is not native to the area.
