What are the birds in the first pic? Stunning colouring.
I agree since seeing them up close like that I like them a lot now.
I believe they are the Silver Eared Mesias (Foreign Softbill). As some of the guys have said they are here in OZ but from what I hear they are in very low numbers in Aviculture. I hope they are still around when I get to a level that I could breed them.

They're silver-eared mesias, and a lot better coloured than most of the ones I've seen here-typical of wild-caught birds I guess, not to mention regional variations.
Nice Niltavas too. Thanks for posting AB!
You are welcome. It may be a bit sad to others outside this Forum, but visiting these Bird Markets was the most exciting thing about my visit to China, I really enjoyed seeing the differences in Aviary Culture and seeing many birds that I may never see again. I went Mad with Photos so I will try and post some more later.

Cheers

Hi Aussie_Bengo.

Beautiful bird pics you got there. Which city did you went to? Everytime I go to China, I always hang out in bird markets, hours on end.

Aussie_Bengo,

Qingdao, that where my wife came from, I would have gone to the same bird Market as you. was it call Nan Shan?

Garry your photos of the Mesias are great, at lease we know some are around in Oz, hoepfully some may be available to us some day.

I saw what appeared to be a chosen method for creating soft food for the sofbills (at least partially) out of meal worms and a kind of mincer.

Great to see the pics in Australia. But the last of the China ones don't seem to have worked. :(
