I like the idea of numbers to a main reference that keeps the card small...just look up numbers to nesting, feeding, compatability, quarantine, etc , and newbies would/should be able to quickly learn whats what..

Plus, the smaller the amount of info located on the species card itself, the more species you can get in!
Although, there are some problems with that method - the big one being generalization. Cordons and fire finches would probably have the same habitat, feeding and perhaps even nesting and compatibility numbers - and yet they do have different needs.....
