On one of the finch Facebook groups someone posted pics of hybrid Bengos and chestnut manikins (chestnut, not chestnut breasted!!!) and when I asked why he said it was to create new bengalese colors, as there aren't that many available to him where he lives (Asia somewhere). Really? REALLY????!!?? Is it that hard to appreciate two different species? Is it so bad to have only a couple of Bengos mutations? RANTTTTTTT
Or is that just me?

You don't need to look beyond finch breeders in Australia to see similar examples, unfortunately.

I believe those are little shields to stop them attacking each other - the piece of plastic inhibits their forward vision so they can't line up a target
