bald gouldians still

Hi all well I have half my flock of gouldians feather loss. I have tried many things.kelp they won't touch even when mixed with sprouted seed. Treated them twice in 3 weeks with moxidectin. Nothing changed large dosage vitamins . Maybe ivomec but already treated with moxi my frustration is getting to me and advice would be great thanks

Are you sure they haven't just gone in to their moult early? I have a couple that are just starting to and it's been a cold winter .

You wont know if you've solved the problem until they moult. Even if they colour up fine I believe it could be an inherited condition which may well re-emerge next season.

Earlier in the year I swapped 5 Gouldians with a bloke who got a heap of birds from me. They looked perfect when I got them but slowly they've all gone bald (and they haven't even been used for breeding). One is so bad even much of its chest feathers are gone. Other Gouldians I have are fine, so with these I think it's likely an inherited condition. These have been sprayed with vetafarm insecticide, treated with Moxi externally and direct to crop. Perfectly healthy otherwise so I'm not sure what to do with them but I know I don't want them.

i think you will find they will grow back all their feathers in the next couple of months when they molt, just keep up the good nutrition and that should get them thru it

Had 2 hens that looked like vultures for months and months , moved them away from a breeding environment and where they got more sunshine and they feathered up again , may have coincided with a moult or may have been the extra Vit D in the sunshine and not having the stress of males harassing them.

I am happy to admit I am a raw newie to all of this - but I have someone who is guiding me with some great information. One person he totally recommends is Dr Rob Marshall - 02 9871 6036 (Carlingford NSW). I can see his products are used by some on this forum. I phoned him today with a worrying problem and he nailed it - medications will be here (Perth) tomorrow.

Personally I doubt the lack of iodine theory. Lots of other comments here.
