Hi Natambo.

I'd to see the exact measurements of the La Trobe site...I'd be very surprised if it is 20 x 40. If you can get exact measurements that would be great

Cheers

Having been present at a number of elections of comittee members of the ASA, I should point out that in my experience they are generally elected unopposed (ie. there is usually only one candidate that has nominated for each position) so it's not so much a case of electing the best person for the job, but more often the only person prepared to take on the job.
It can hardly be surprising that they end up with a few seatwarmers as a result.
In my opinion, what is desperately needed is new blood. They really need energetic, enthusiastic members to step up and take on the task of dragging the society into the 21st century.

Just to confuse things a bit more........basketball courts are different sizes :? So says Wiki. The official sizes are more or less the same but the High School one are shorter by 3m.
Wiki figures below.
NBA size court is 28.65m by 15.24m
FIBA court is 28 m by 15 m
High school court is 25 m by 15m
Elementary school court is 22.5m x 12.8m
Amateur court sizes vary

La Trobe:
- Main Hall 20x31m plus stage area. Actual stage is 13x6. Total Hall length 20x40 including doors and stage.
- Annexe 20x5 approx (width guessed from drawings).
-Total useable space (excluding actual stage) = approx 700sqm main hall plus 100sqm annexe. Stage could be used too if required???

As I suspected, it's bigger than you think and 800sqm elsewhere does not really provide a significant amount of additional space just an alternate venue.

Thanks Natambo for your info.

If the La Trobe is 700 sqm you are right that 800 sqm elsewhere might not be enough. But there are many problems with the La Trobe site other than the size of the venue. When we identify another appropriate site we will let you know and seek your input.

We would also appreciate your positive contribution by identifying a suitable site in your local area. The reason for our request is that with the assistance of many members we can quickly identify suitable sites rather than Mr Tino and I trying to search through heaps of potential sites on our own.

Cheers

Paul, as the finch flies I'm only about 300m from Flavio so there's no real point in me finding something out this side, we're too close to Mornington's site.

I've scanned the net using all sorts of search terms and can't find anything bigger in north or west or even inner east. What's really needed is local knowledge - if it's to be out your side (so as to not compete with Mornington) then it will in all likelihood be found by you guys, misso or someone else over there I suspect.

One of the catches is weekend, everywhere I try is either so much dearer on the weekend or already in use (eg pipe works).

Does any know if VUT has anything suitable? Also, is it worth asking Moonee Valley and Flemington to see if they have a suitable shed?

Some school halls/gyms are a decent size and as schools are closed on weekends, available for hire in many cases. Have you thought to check these? Hope this is some help.

FB, most school halls are actually much smaller than you think - La Trobe is about the size of two high school basketball courts.
