Talking birds september issue has announced that importing finches into Tasmainia has been banned , could this be the start of a national ban on imports ????
Opens up lots of questions hey .....
What happens to bloodlines of exotics ?
Will we ever see new species of exotics in oz?
What about bird prices ?
Doesnt effect me at all as Im mainly into natives and the only blowins are Orange Breasts and Bengalese but doesnt seem fair to the exotic keepers or any one thinking of keeping them.
Biosecurity legislations are to blame for the ban ....

Never try to make sense of how some of these bureaucrats think. I'm convinced most of them wouldn't know if their arse was on fire.

Can anyone confirm if Tasmania has a problem with exotics living in the wild?

yeh im not sure why they have banned importen finches into the state. The WA department is stupid aswell with not allowing some finch and a lot of parrot species into the state. were only aloud 4-5 conure species.

I have no idea but the best place to ask is quarantine themselves at <[email protected]>. Given that the majority of estrillid finches are tropical in origin perhaps they are pre-empting global warming!

Thinks Tassie wouldnt be warm enough for a lot of exotics in winter so they shouldnt be a feral risk ....maybe its an over reaction by the greenies coz they have let the native populations of indiginous critters decline so much due to lack of fore sight :o
Just another hysterical episode by do gooders with no idea....
