What are stars like as "sitting on eggs / newly hatched" parents. If it is a little warmer as in the last week do they leave the young alone?

There usually good parents. They don't tolerate nest inspections and won't tolerate other finches interfering with there nests.

I'd agree with Henry on the nest inspections by human carers but on the matter of interference from other finch species they don't necessarily dessert - I've found them raising unplanned foster Gouldians that were dropped as eggs in the star nest by their lazy cousins and raised with their own.

Agree with those above - try not to even look at Star nests.

A bit off topic, but I recently had a Gouldian fledge from a strawberry nest. It took me a while to believe it as it was a good month after I'd removed the gouldian pair from the aviary.
