i have a pair of shaft tails that have nested and today has 4 eggs in their nest. the male is hand reared and the hen is not but very tame. the male is about 14 - 16 months old and the hen i believe is about 3 years old. they get along great together, well normally but the male wont let the hen anywhere near the nest. they are free flying birds that fly around my flat but have nested in a cage with a door thats always open. the male has today started the incubation process but when ever the hen goes into the cage he comes charging out of the nest attacking the hen pulling her feathers out, its like watching two pitball terriors fight to the death
can anyone offer some advice with this pair? i dont know really what to do with them. the hen just looks miserable which is understandable. the nesting box is the one he has known all his life so not sure if that has anything to do with it. any ideas? thanks
