Welcome to the Forum. As long as you have a well protected avairy. (Wind proof) and Draft proof nest boxes you should be fine with Gouldians.

Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone. It's nice to visit a forum full of friendly people.

The links to the past Singleton sales did work for me, and it was good to have a read through. I see a lot of the posts related to some pretty rare and interesting birds, but I am glad to hear that a lot of the more common varieties are available there too. I did sneak a peak at some red headed parrot finches in one of the photos.

Thanks for the info regarding the Gouldians finchbreeder. I wasn't sure how they would fare in a Newcastle climate. I have read that they tend to do ok, so that will probably be something I chat to some breeders about.

I wont drag this introduction thread too far off topic - I will probably post a few questions over in the other forum sections related to the birds I would like to keep as well as my housing arrangements.
