Hey all,
I've been keeping an eye on my female long tail for a while now, she's lost quite a lot of feathers from one side of her face, and the skin looked strange. I caught her up, and kept her separate and sprayed her for mites and lice, and her skin seemed to be improving and feathers regrowing, so I put her back in the aviary.
Now the male has become like that too - just the long tails, all the other finches look perfectly healthy, but the long tails are really scruffy and awful looking.
The other thing I noticed is I haven't heard them call - just some gurgly wheezes. Perhaps something to do with their breathing?? I really miss their calls!
I took some pictures, but I am on my iPad so I will attempt to post them later tonight.
Thanks,
J

Thanks birds of a feather, yeah that's what I thought too - but surely some of the other birds would have started going the same way by now? Especially the gouldians...

They might be a bit wheezy without showing feather damage. Moxidectin the lot now and again in 2-3 weeks.

I meant wheezy, not feather damaged.... Certainly none seem to have lost their calls.
I would moxidectin them, but the gouldians, doves and possible others are feeding young in the nest - is it safe?

Thanks mr. Tino :) I will get some.
In the meantime, should I separate the long tails?
My sister is using the computer, so no images tonight.
