I obviously missed something in the thread...
Now back to the bird, is it a rainbow bee-eater, or something else? Apparently the rainbow ones are nesting in the next suburb and the council has put up temporary fencing so they are not disrupted by mowing etc (they have burrows in the ground). Nice to have a council that puts conservation above dollars for once!
They migrate from some far away place that escapes me at the moment.

Yes, It's a Rainbow bee-eater - Merops ornatus.

Status Common. not endemic to Australia and apart from Southern South Australia and the Eastern part of WA can be seen almost everywhere.

Common or not they are beautiful, and I for one am glad that some councils are conservationists. Now if more councils thought that way about more birds. :flower: :flower: :flower:

Yeah, the like waterways or something too?
We have a creek/river across the road, so I think they might nest in the banks of that. I don't think there is a worry of anyone disturbing them, it would be the big lizards that I would be worried about!
