Hi All,
Am a newbie to the world of finches, i currently own a pair of Zebra Finches (and their 8 offspring).
I am actually a rabbit breeder/exhibitor and show English Angora rabbits however i wanted a bit of noise in the house and fell in love with these little guys.
To be perfectly honest i really have no idea on colours etc in Zebra Finches (though i could rattle of every genotype for all the different rabbit colours from the top of my head). I have googled numerous different things to try to understand them better but unfortunately it just seems to elude me.
The best way for me to describe my pair would be to Call them Silver, however that is most likely not the correct term.
Their first clutch of eggs produced what look like normal greys (both a cock and hen) however this second clutch has produced 4 the colour of the first clutch, a silvery chick and a fawn chick.
I have attached a photo of my pair, as well as a photo of their second clutch (sorry about the photo quality but they were being difficult)
I'd really appreciate any help and advice : )
Thanks Alicia

Rabbits are most certainly allowed in Tassie. We probably have around 20 different breeds here (though there are about 30-40 breeds australia wide).
We have a local club and hold shows on the 2nd Saturday of each month, normally we end up with between 100-150 rabbits entered.
They are judged to a Standard of Perfection and compete for Best in Show.
Am really enjoying my finches though, and can't wait to find out more about them. I do have a couple of books from when i was a kid (i'm 24), but they really don't help with the colour/genetic side of things and thats one part i really enjoy learning about.

Your cock Zeb looks like a Dilute to me. Hen silver I would say. So the young have a dilute gene from dad and a normal gene from mum. And the fawn chick would indicate a split fawn parent of the opposite sex. Dad is beautiful, have just put a cock who looks like this in with a fawn dilute hen, myself. Have a look at the pics on here. It should help a little.
