the reason for the up and down in terms of maggot numbers is the age of the fly. Young flies havent developed to produce, the older flies die off and thus a lull in the numbers of maggots bred. The other reason is temperature, in Sydney in particular we have had dramatic changes in temperatures over a few days, going from hot to cold dramatically then back to warm, pattern of weather has been very inconsistent.

Thanks for the replys, my last two mixes were duds as well, even tried some porridge oats this morning.
A friend came around today with a tub of maggotts for me and agreed that the set up looks ok. You could be right
about the weather, we have gone from 30+ to killer winds, rain and hail.I'll put some of his maggotts back in to turn
to pupae and feed out the rest and should know by Sunday how the last batch has gone.Just when you think you
know it all you realize you know nothing.

Spot on Shox,also on warm/hot days you do not need your lights on in the box and you have to keep the humidity up by supplying a couple of bursts of a mist spays through the fly wire at least once a day.Your water container want supply enough humidity for hundreds of flies. Craig
