Hi

I was there last year and there was quite a few finches although they do sell fast so you to have an attack plan.

I am hoping to find some siskins this year.

Cheers

there are usually a good number of finches at Singleton......more than at some sales....I went to castle hill sale this year and there were very few finches........it was run by the parrot society of australia so its not surprising there were more parrots :D
if youd like to think about going ive included the web site with the flyers for the singleton sale and the save the gouldian open day

the best thing to do if your interested in going to the open day...is to go to the web site and get David Myers email address.....he will email you details of the day.....its basically a vist to inspect the research facility and there are usually some speakers arranged...plus a good day for birdo communication and interaction

Gouldian Open Day
What happens; The number is restricted to 150 people. Those people are then divided into 6 groups of 25 and then go through the facility as a unit.
The 6 sections are
Breeding facility and prep section.
Breeding section 2 and outside aviaries
The research section is split into 2
The other two are workshop/lectures. Mike takes one lecture and the other is by a well know Sydney finch breeder.
Each section has a person explaining what is happening and answering queries
From memory the circuit takes around 2 hours and remember this is a breeding facility so it has to be organised.
There is nothing else like this facility in Australia and few in the world.
There is a BBQ and a very good opportunity to talk to the other visitors.
All in all it is very very well worth the effort in attending.

Singleton Bird Sale
Generally has a good selection of cheap to middle range finches available
BUT like all sales the finch buyers must be there at start time because
the finches generally sell out very quickly.
You can generally get good contacts from the better type sales so take something to write on.
