Well as expected, another Gouldian found dead on the aviary floor. Can't find the male Ruddy anywhere although I spotted him last night when I got home. I'm starting to think Gouldians are not for me and my aviary setup...

Sorry to hear about everyone's losses. I expect the weather has a lot to do with it, one day its 25 next its raining with gale force winds.
Im wanting to add a pair of goldbreasts to the aviary, but I think I will hold off until the weather gets a bit better.

Touch wood on the possative side the only bird I've lost recently was an older Zeb cock
On the negative, nothing much happening this breeding season, though mother canary is sitting

Ive got two canaries nesting/sitting, only one cock bird though, so either one set of eggs will be duds or he's playing both sides of the aviary!

And there goes another Gouldian hen. That's 3 this week!
It wouldn't surprise me if your 2 canary hens have fertile eggs. Canary cock birds do play the field if you know what I mean...Congrats!

It is a good chance both canary hens will have fertile eggs because yes canary cocks have been known to be very liberal with their favours when there is no competition or if they are top bird and there is a spare hen available.
I gave my boy a good vent trim this year. He is a very heavily feathered crested gloster. One of the best singers I have heard for quite some years.
