it's the biggest clutch that they have ever fledged. usually only have 2 fledge with a third dead in the nest.
difference could be the variety of live food that they had available. had the usual mealworms & maggots but I increased the amount of moths that were available for them. have a couple of moth traps out every night now as the ruddies and st helenas also go nuts for them

I have tried mealworms for my emblemas and ruddies since I got them nearly a year ago and the mealworms never get eaten. Now I have the goldbreasts as well I will give them another try. I did see some dried, I think, insect food name began with W, cant remember, thinking about giving that a go.

have noticed my emblemas only seem to eat live food when they have young. the ruddies eat a litle all the time but when they have young live food is all they want

congrats with the new arrivals mick.
My emblemas go through lots of mini mealworms since they are rearing 3 young. They have just fleged and are flying all over the place and look very strong.
Was thinking of a moth trap too.

Where do you get the mini mealworms from Will? I have been getting mealworms since I got the birds. I got to the stage of counting the amount I put in and leaving them for several days, never was any missing. Maybe the one I was getting were too big. I dont want to grow them myself....ughhhWill_36 wrote:My emblemas go through lots of mini mealworms since they are rearing 3 young.
Bad enough having them in the fridge, inside the plastic box, and the 3 three plastic bags and the big plastic box.....dont want any escaping.

havent got any pics of the moth trap. all I use is an upside down jar. position that just below a light and in the moths go, luckily they are to dumb to fly down and out they just keep trying to get up to the light.
mini mealies should be available from pisces enterprises or try aasking at your current supplier, tell them you want mini mealworms approx 1/2" long, they shouldnt have any trouble getting them for you
