Is it normal for this mutation to have a blue wash through the cheek area?
The parents are BH PC GB cock x BH WC YB hen. No links to blue breeding.
Pic doesnt make it very clear but to me they have a bluish tinge to the cheek area. Checked with hubby and with no prompting other than directing him to look at the face area and tell me what colour he sees, he reckons he can see a blue tinge too
BH PC/poss w SFYB cocks

Hi BB, if you look at most gouldian pictures that describe the bird being ( BLUE HEAD ) they all seem to be BH/PB/SFY ( Euro Yellows )
so it must have something to do with the euro yellow mutation and the black head form.....
gouldianpaul was tinkering with the blue head, maybe he can chime in on his observation with these birds.
had anyone else noticed that?

They do seem a little blueish.
Now you are just going to have to start breeding these.
Oh poor you.

HI BB,
This is similar to some SFYB PB BH's we are working with at the moment. There seems to be a blue wash across the head (I'm calling it blue head), but we are yet to determine if it is a true mutation or just a variation to the EY with a BH.
So far none of the young have shown the same blue wash just the original cock....of the 5 young produced from the original pair we have 2 hens and they are both normals. So we are putting a few pairs together to try and work out if this is a true mutation. I suspect it will take at least 2-3 years before we accurately know that and then another couple of years before we can out cross them and strengthen up the bloodlines.
Stay tunned.
Cheers

If it is showing up only in BH SFYB then it is probably a variation. (similar to the difference between Opaline and Royal Opaline in Budgies) But one I for one would be very happy to have in my avairys. Good luck in extending the blue.
