just spoke to a bloke in qld who mentioned a breeder releasing gouldians into the wild.
he wrote this on the bird page after i said, Are You Serious?????
"Yes Jarryd, alot of Gouldian breeders up here release into the wild to keep the count up and also to keep them in the nearby area. Some breeders are a member of the "Save the Gouldian Program".
how stupid are these people! GRRRRRR!

Well I haven't seen them, but apparently there was a small colony of aviary escapee goulds in Hervey Bay Esplanade...so I suppose it is possible for a few to survive been picked off by predators

There was an official release program via the Mareeba Wetlands. Is it part of this?

I'm pretty sure it would be Danny, alot of people don't know about it,captive wild birds with no mutations in them which is/was strictly adhered to. CraigDanny wrote:There was an official release program via the Mareeba Wetlands. Is it part of this?

If they are releasing normals into the edge of an existing habitat, to increase genetic diversity and expand the habitat that is good. And hopefully will suceed. Just letting any type of them out anywhere for the sake of it is daft.

i asked the bloke if it was apart of the release program or backyard breeders letting out gouldians.
his reply as follows "Jarryd some breeders are in a program but I also know of other breeders who release them of their own choice. All Gouldians released are Normals and close to the Mareeba Wetlands."
is their any info online about the release program? surely most gouldians captive bred then released into the wild would perish?

Their "regular" newsletter does not appear to be that regular Craig. Last reported winter 2009.
