I also have it, on good authority from one of our respected old timers, that squirting "turps" onto the cats "one eye" as it walking away from you, also has the desired effect of removing the culprit from your premises, never to return.

This method is the best alternative, a cat is smart enough to only get zapped once, it will not return. Wait and see your birds start to breed better and your death rate drop. Is the best thing I did for my birds.
What are people using for Earthing stakes, when installing an electric fence system?

I must admit as I heard my neighbors distressed calls for their beloved "max" I was quite happy in the fact he may never return..

bloody thing runs riot setting my dog off at all hours of the night then I get the complaints not to mention the impact old maxi pooh has on my birds!

Hopefully he has either died of old age or other

Birds of a feather
If I understand you correctly you need to know how a electric cattle type tape unit is fitted.
The active part(generally red connector) runs from the unit and around the aviary but is insulated from any part of the aviary via insulators and
can finish anywhere.
The negative part(generally black connector) runs from the unit and is connected to the metal aviary frame.
The circuit is made when the cat bridges the active tape to the aviary frame via its body and it gets one big voltage belt.
It is not fatal as there are no amps involved.Similar set up to a cars spark plug.
The only danger to humans is if they have a pacemaker and the shock can cause a problem.
Speaking from experience once you have felt it you don't want to experience it again.

If you've got wooden aviaries on concrete (like mine) an alternative is to drive a star picket into the ground at least three feet but ideally all the way in.

War was declared at my place this morning. I first noticed the bloody thing hanging off the outer wire a week or two ago. I spoke with the neighbour who apologised and said that she would try and keep it inside at night. Well last night at midnight it woke the missus up with a thud when it hit the aviary. I went down stairs to find the thing hanging off the wire with the birds going ape sh!t hitting the wire in a panic. I chased it off, but it was back at 1:40 am. This time I went over to the neighbours house so I wasn't the only one awake at that time of the morning. She was lucky I put pants on.

So I have the energizer box and am off the rural supplies this morning to pick up some insulators and wire. I will also pick up a trap if they are reasonable value. A sympathetic neighbour who has his lawn shat on by this cat has kindly offered to supply the bricks if I supply the trap. If I do actually trap it, it will go to the pound.

Touch wood I haven't lost any birds yet.

Wish me luck. Cheers
Ian

REf to above . if I do actually trap it, it will go to the pound. I think you have it wrong. It should read "If I do actually trap it, it will go to ground!" :shh:
