In the recent 45 degree heat a pair of my budgies decided to jump ship and leave the obviously too hot nest box with 3 eggs in it .
After a couple of days of no hen incubating I took the box out so they could not breed again in summer

Anyhoo a quick scan ( without my glasses ) and I was sure the eggs were dead so put the box in the shed for a clean up later in the day .
Yep forgot all about the box until a week later when other half rushes in and tells me what he thought sounded like a mouse was a baby budgie pipping

No other option but to whack the eggs under another hen who had young at pin feather stage and just wait and see

So yesterday we had a look , expecting the worse we found 4 feathered babies belonging to the hen and 3 little pink babies with very full crops

Could not believe my eyes .
Think I have the prefect foster mum in that hen ...
