My insect trap is old. no very old and it still catches all the bugs I need.
You need I kitchen exhaust fan mounted on a piece of panel board with the normal circle cut out just as if it was going into a ceiling.
You need a circular flou fitting, basically all you need of it is the tube clips and the normal internal bits. The tube(clips) are mounted on the other side
of the fan so it is pulling air through the light fitting, ballast etc mounted away from ythe tube and holeback .
Then you need a black flou tube(ultra violet) on the end of the fan you fit a fine netting bag.
Then all you do is face it away from your house in the evening and next morning remove the bag of bugs, stick them in the freezer
for about 5 min which slows them down so you can feed them out.
On a good night I can collect maybe a 1 kilo of moths etc which are great livefood.
I shall try and get a photo to Di,in the mean time I will try and find out where Mike got his as they are alot more proffessional than mine.

It's storm proof though, mine got blown over by storms in the flood, left it off for a night, pluggerd it back in & off it went, only problem is it is catching more mozzies than moths at present.Tintola wrote:. I don't think it is rainproof though.

I bought an insectivoro 367. It is very user friendly but the fan could use a bit more oomph. It cost heaps. I think with a bit of effort a home made rig could be much more effective
As far as yield goes living in the inner city there is a lot of light pollution. I think I'd be lucky to get 30 moths, 30 mozzies and a few other bits and pieces. Would be lucky to be 5 to 10 grams a night. E orix - to get a kilo a night you must have a turbine and a floodlight.
Cheers Ian

Remember I live in the country and can pull bugs in from a big area.
I don't know but we have even caught Sparrows in it on several occasions.
They are not happy when they are caught up but we just let them go.
