I sit here reading these pm's and I think back at all the work, time and effort put in to get a few imports of Finches.
Over 30 years ago I was involved in presenting a blueprint of what was needed and how and where the birds could be located.
Open slather imports were not what was wanted but a genuine method of how people could get a few birds each.
We were thanked for our efforts and zero happened, this was repeated each time the requests became continuous until today
and it still is the same.
Those that have the power to pemit it WILL NOT even if they know there is virtually no risk(nothing is risk free). They simply won't
stick their necks out.
If the Govt. thought there was a reasonable $ in it we would be all smiles.
Even if they made the grand decision to allow imports(pigs may fly) then they would require so much attention, facilities that
the birds would be far too expensive for the every day bird keeper. It's a sad fact that the Govt,s of the day just don't give a RATS
But I guess we could dream
Interestingly there are birds that can be imported without a permit but how and when does this ever happen is another question since the department of environment and AQIS don't publicly discuss the principles that underly their actions and largely inactions on bird importation. We need inside information.
