Looking for some guidance please.
I went finch window shopping on the weekend.
I like to get value for my money, but am I being a pennypincher.
$30 for a juvenile star male.
$75 for pair double bars.
$60 for a pair of fires.
Are these prices around the mark I know we coming into spring
and breeding season and such.
Watching my pennies

they seem to be close to the mark for the hunter...although stars are usually 25...and double bars can get for 30-35 a pair around this area...even in pet shops
prices in general seem a bit cheaper here than for SA gomer
I believe they were selling yellow rumps for $80 a pair (DNA tested) in Queesnland recently
and in sydney they were $60 (not DNA) a pair ..imported from WA so they say
its hard to put a definite price on things though...depends where you get them.....youll always get them cheaper at club bird sales or off a fellow birdkeeper in my experience
cheers

Hi Pete.....I think thats what i was trying to get at with my comments about prices.....pet shops have to make a living but it can be misleading as to a resonable price.......one pet shop near here has tri coloured parrot finches (pair ) for $390 ....sadly they have been in the shop for three months and may not ever get out at that price.....i guess the message is...shop around......
depending on how desperate you are i spose......id kill for a female yellow billed long tail right now...if i dont get one soon the ol fella is going to dismantle every other nest in the place and try to pinch all the other birds wives...regardless of species
it was interesting to hear about the yellow rumps coming from kalgoolie....is there some one there breeding a lot?...i wasnt told where in WA ..just that they came from there at what seemed like a very reasonable price

Those prices are from several private people.
A pet shop is just that, A pet shop.
Maybe I am a scrooge.
Shopping around is limited here in Adelaide.
Thanks for your replies.

Anything I say. What a wonderful philosophy you have.

i remember when they were expensive....not that long ago thats why i was a bit stunned to see them advertised so cheaply
anyway...they are birds id like to have and breed so im looking for a couple...id like to see more keepers here with them as well but they seemed to have slipped under the radar a bit
