Have just had my first cuban chick fledge 3 weeks ago and so far everything's going well. Considering I never saw them on the nest I'm pretty happy. If there's going to be problems with aggression will there be any warning or does it just happen suddenly ( and fatally)? The parents have almost finished making another nest so I've been keeping a really close eye on them all, but don't want to remove this chick if I don't have to as it would need to be alone until there were more young to buddy up with. Any ideas anyone?

Might be ok but might not be. Some Dads are fine and others will suddenly turn. If it was my first Cuban chick I would catch it out.

I too would remove the young bird. Cubans are quite unpredictable with other Cubans. In general, they tend to be aggressive. I would not risk it.

My darling boy. Avatar. Passed away yesterday. Was totally gentle with everything. Even when his little lady lost a foot to a mozzie bite, he allowed for that and everything. BUT when hubby accidently let junior fly over his head and back in with the parents, it was curtains for the kid. PS if it turns out you have a young cock PM me.

Cubans are one of the hardest birds to catch on the nest. The non sitting bird calls at the first sign of sight or sound of anyone.
As for removing the young, yes I would do it,after 3 weeks out it is well and truely independant, you may see an adult move it along
but the danger period is when it starts to colour up.That is when the hen can savage the young hens and the male will savage the young males.
It is far better to be safe than sorry. The pair are most likely incubating again and the young bird would be in the way.

Thanks everyone, It's still begging and being fed occasionally but realise it's old enough to feed independently. Also still being preened by both mum and dad. As they're still building their next meganest I'll take a risk and leave it till the weekend when it will be 4 weeks out of the nest. Unless of course I see any hassling in the meantime. Have set up a trap cage and have been putting treats in for a week or so to make it easier to catch without disturbing any of my others.... so ready to go.
Finchbreeder, will let you know if it's a male. Parents are real characters.
