I have a gold breast hen that has suddenly lost feathers on her face. Face very red and seemd to have a hole.

Do I treat with moxidectin in water or do I try scaly mite treatment directly onto face?

The hole, if its on the side of the head would probably be her ear. Cant say what would cause the feather loss in a orange breasted waxbill, gouldians hens can prone to this, esp, during the latter stages of the breeding season. They usually moult out and come back in fine plumage with or without any treatments.
Has this hen had lots of clutches?

how old is she?? many clutches this year?? is it eating well or sitting in the tray never getting full, agree the hole is the ear on the side of the head.

Many of my OB hens lose face feathers from over-zealous mutual preening from their mates. Nothing to stress about or medicate for - they usually grow back fine.
